This boiler accessory is used when there is more than one heating zone in the home. Zone control means each section (zone) of the home can have its temperature adjusted independently from the others. Also needed for boiler zoning is A) thermostats for each zone and B) either a circulator pump or solenoid valve for each zone.
The Honeywell R8888A Hydronic Circulator Zone Panel with Priority Control is the main control which provides relay switching for multizone hot water control systems. The panel controls the boiler burner operation and circulator pump motor control for up to three zones in residential or light commercial hot water systems. It features a priority setting for Zone 1 to insure proper operation of an indirect hot water tank. Also, the burner control for Zone 2 can be disabled allowing the circulator pump to run without the burner to prevent short cycling of small capacity zones. Up to four panels (12 zones total) may be wired together for larger systems.
