Vacuum forming is easy! Now you can learn one of the easiest moldmaking and parts forming techniques available! Build your own vacuum forming machine and make your own parts!
To me the most fun of making models is to be able to make something the other guys simply can't. Forming a custom bubble canopy for an airplane, forming wing tips, forming a fuel tank for that antique model engine, creating the form for and them forming a body for a slot car, make a mold form for casting the inside of a melting furnace, and on and on! The projects for a vacuum form machine are endless!
Vacuum forming can be used to make molds from thin plastic, such as molds for soft candy or molds for plaster casting even molds for making your own plasticene fishing worms and lures. Larger machines can make molds for things such as concrete stepping stones.
Want to vacuum form thin plastic parts for your model airplane, Radio Control car bodies, kids toys, plaster molds or just about anything you can think of? All you need to make vacuum formed molds or parts are a vacuum forming machine, sheets of the proper plastic, and a 3-dimensional model of any shape you want to form and this book!
You can easily make the forms from wood or plaster or just use a part that already exists that you can get at the crafts, hobby or hardware store. It's easy to duplicate as many parts as you want from these readily available "forms".
With this book and Doug's other plans for larger machines you can make your own equipment and save a lot of money! Commercially available vacuum forming equipment can cost well over $1,000 for the smallest machine, and the large commercial machines run to $20,000 and more! You can make your own machine for about $100 - $200 in parts!
Better yet, the design given in the book allows you to easily apply a "two stage" vacuum and make the vacuum much more effective than many of the commercially available machines. Sources for all the parts and materials you need is also included!
