EscrowUnlt © AP6.0EscrowUnlt © AP6.0This is a one gallon bag of Cabosil fluid thickener.
Also known as Colloidal Silica, Fumed Silica, SiO2, Silicon Dioxide, Silicon Aerogel. Cabosil is functionally similar to Aerosil, a similar product made by another company.
Cabosil is an extremely fine powder (practically microscopic) used to thicken resins, including epoxy, silicone, polyester, vinylester, and urethane. It can also thicken paint, dyes, and even water.
We sell it primarily for thickening epoxy resins.
It is great for making a filleting resin, thickening epoxy for a better glue consistency, and for use below the waterline. Epoxy mixed with Cabosil is an ideal product for repairing the blisters that are so common on fiberglass boats.
The reason Cabosil works lies in its extremely small particle size. This means that for a given weight or volume of Cabosil, it has an extremely large amount of surface area. Epoxy, being a petrochemical with an oily feel, tends to drain off a vertical surface. By adding Cabosil, the epoxy can be made to stay in place on a vertical surface.
We recommend using Cabosil in roughly a one to one ratio to the mixed epoxy by volume (Or by weight, 100:5 epoxy/Cabosil). This will provide a consistency similar to Vaseline. You may use more or less to suit your application. Cabosil adds a milky white color to the epoxy.
Weight per Gallon: Approximately 8 oz.
Average Particle Size: 0.2-0.3 microns
